Cloth Diapers- Getting Started with Newborns

These days there are so many options for cloth diapers. I've compiled some information that I think is helpful.

OK first of all you'll want 2 sizes Newborn and One Size. You'll want to consider how you'll store your dirty diapers, and how you'll wash them (which is simple but has some rules) .

Newborn- fitting most babies 6-15 ish lbs or about 3 mths depending on the brand
One Size- fitting most babies 10-35 lbs the fit will depend on the brand. Most one size will be bulky and loose in the legs when they are first tried out on babies so newborn diapers are great to start with.

Storing them- We started out using a large trash can with a lid and 2 pail liners in babies room . Now we just have a smaller trash can in the bathroom next to our toilet and diaper sprayer.

Washing them- Every 2-3 days with cloth diaper safe detergent (we used All free and Clear and it worked well for us. There is link of detergents ranked HERE. No bleach, no softener/dryer sheets,and only cloth diaper safe diaper rash cream. Also HE washers take 1/8 of the detergent for a normal wash load and regular washers take 1/4 of the detergent for a normal wash load .


















I would personally recommend Prefolds and Covers for the Newborn stage. We got our prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers and Love them
Newborns go threw a TON diapers and getting 2- 3 dozen prefolds is way cheaper then getting a ton of pocket or All in one style diapers and it will hold in Poops if you use a snappie or Boingo's.

Moving on to One Size- You can go from simple flats or prefolds and Covers all the way up to more fancy All in one style Diapers. Depending on your budget.
There are many options in style and materials too.

From my newborn with re-flux to my nearly 3 year old who get cranky when he refuses naps at times. Baby wearing saves the day! I would not get anything done if it wasn't for my carriers! Here is my DH wearing my son Z in the  Boba. He went from wide awake and about 15 minutes later.... 

 He is out like a light ;) 

Here we are at a wedding- We drove 3 hrs and we got bad directions from our navigator so when we got there all of the seats were taken and we had to stand in the back (it was outdoors) I stood there holding our youngest for a total of 5 minutes before I went back to the car for my K-Tan Carrier .. aww sweet relief! And he loves it too!

If you can't tell I'm a pretty petite gal (4'9" tall) so my nearly 14 lbs 2.5 month old can get heavy pretty quick Plus I have a rare bone deformity in my wrists so holding him for to long can get painful. Not when I wear him... I can hold him comfortably for extended periods of time and it does not bother me and I have a free hand to wrangle up my toddler.

 At the reception .. again I was able get my dinner buffet style with baby in the carrier and eat my food ..get this moms STILL WARM! That's right! ;) 

I get compliments on both of my carriers! <3 them both! That being said not all carriers are created equal. You really want to do your research and choice one that is ergonomically correct for the safety of your baby!
